"A society built on green design, sustainable energy and closed loop systems, a civilization afloat on a cloud of efficient, non-toxic, recyclable technology."~~Alex Nikolai Steffan
Speaking of the 1%, we haven't gotten down to this number when it comes to the number of individuals in the US who still are categorized as 'climate change deniers.' With the holidays coming up, it's always a good time to prep for a stimulating conversation with the equivalent of our Uncle Harry. Here's a suggestion for really getting the ball rolling:
“You may not be interested in climate change, but climate change is interested in you.”- Tom Friedman
Also, show a graphic that simply explains the rising global temperature and where our planet is headed unless we get serious (like yesterday) about reducing carbon emissions.

Abe Siegel writes in his blog, Get Energy Smart! Now!, (his ! not mine):The world view of ‘business as usual’ shows increased emissions in 2050 (and driving car into the wall at 60 miles per hour by the end of the century), compared to today, targeting a carbon-neutral future economic system seems a sensible objective (to get our speed ‘down’ to 20 miles per hour).
When Uncle Harry uses the 'natural change in temperatures over time' argument, and does his best Stephen Colbert imitation: "Is not climate just made up of thousands of little weathers?" it's time to open up the laptop or tablet to this video, start it running and depart the room for another glass of wine--for you, not Uncle Harry.
Do not offer to buy Uncle Harry's retirement condo in Miami. Projected sea level rise has it underwater around 2060.
