Agriculture consumes fully 85% of all U.S. freshwater resources. About 60% of that water evaporates before it hits the ground due to out-dated, barbaric irrigation methods. In the United States, less than 0.1% of the stored ground water mined annually (aquifers, etc) is replaced by rainfall. Based on these facts, supporting local, regional based farms which use water conservation-based irrigation is the most important thing we can do to conserve water.
