When is it Green to Buy More?

Most every day, we  support buying less, rather than buying a product simply because it's green.  However, the realities of overpackaging and the higher individual pricing that accompanies it, causes one to                              think about buying in bulk.  I'm also longing for the olden days of the food co-op on Gaines Street before it became New Leaf.  Everything was in bulk, rows of bins of staples provided me, a new whole foods shopper, with almost unending choices.  What exactly is bulgur wheat?  I pondered as I studied my worn copy of Diet for a Small Planet.
