According to the report released last month from the Brookings Institution, Shrinking the Carbon Footprint of Metropolitan America,
some Florida cities are creating a high proportion of carbon emissions, based solely on vehicle and residential energy and without counting an emissions for manufacturing or other businesses.
Interestingly, we always hear about the vehicle congestion in Broward and Dade counties yet, the Sarasota-Manatee area produced more per-capita emissions than major cities like Miami, Atlanta and Charlotte, NC! This area was also the sixth worst of the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas in greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles in the nation. No Florida cities ranked among the best with the lowest emissions. See the left sidebar for a ranking of Florida's cities.
