Savvy Green Readers know there are not cars that run on water, despite the hype. Even though Reuters News Service reported it, doesn't make it so.
Thanks to treehugger.com who finally came clean (nice pun, yes?) and reported that just because a press conference is called that shows a car that "looks like it runs on water," doesn't mean that it literally does. It's usually done with metal hydrides, that react with water to produce hydrogen, which is used to power the car. This means more energy is used to produce the energy that runs the car. For a complete debunk, see the treehugger post on the Genepax Water-Powered Car, purported to run for up to an hour at 80 kph on one liter of water.
