A Green Tallahassee reader recently participated in the City's ceiling insulation rebate program and has been raving about how easy and cost effective it was.
She was able to schedule an appointment with an energy auditor in January within two weeks from the time she inquired. She admitted that she knew about the program, just hadn't really followed up on it until then. She agreed to the auditor's recommendation to increase her ceiling insulation to R38 with blown insulation, since she has an electric heat pump. (If the home has a central electric resistance furnace, the recommendation is R49.) The City paid 80 percent of the cost (a maximum of $400). She paid $280, which she estimates she could recover in cost savings before the end of the summer!
