Plug-in America shares this photo and tidbit about what really was the first electric car. Imagine what the world would be like if these cars had evolved from the time of their invention sometime between 1832 and 1839! These cars held the land speed record back in 1889, and topped out at a speed of over 69 mph. According to author, Paul A. Hughes in his book A History of Early Electric Cars, early cars used non-rechargeable electric cells and later evolved into storage batteries.
