The two-year-long controversy over the Taylor County Coal plant had a small victory when the partnership, The Taylor Energy Center, announced that it was no longer seeking state permits. The Governor came out in opposition to more coal plants anywhere in Florida and the Public Service Commission voted against a proposed coal plant in Glades County.
So, that means that the City of Tallahassee pulls its support, right? Not exactly. Commissioner Katz was quoted in the Tallahassee Democrat on July 4th as saying, "We need to cut our losses and move on." The Mayor says not so fast. The City Commission will meet July 11th to hear staff recommendations about how the City is going to meet its energy needs without the coal plant.
