Florida Green Communities provides incentives to encourage developers to build green affordable housing across the state. Florida Green Communities is part of a national effort to transform the way builders locate, design and build affordable housing.

Special incentives available to developers interested in building green in Florida include:

x $2.5 million in discounted green loans
x $230,000 in grants to help cover costs associated with building green
x Free technical assistance from the Florida Solar Energy Center to help utilize the most cost-effective green strategies and identify local design professionals with green building expertise
x Competitively priced equity through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.

The Florida Community Loan Fund, the Florida Green Building Coalition and the Enterprise Foundation are partners in this initiative.

The Florida Green Building Coalition's mission is
"to provide a statewide Green Building program with environmental and economic benefits." The Coalition is developing technical standards for a variety of green practices including residential homes and commercial buildings, as well as for local government development. The Coalition will apply the standards to provide independent third-party verification for a project's green planning and actions.
